Eurowings arrives at Hosea Kutako International Airport

EUROWINGS INUAGURAL FLIGHT LANDS AT HOSEA KUTAKO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The capital of Namibia, Windhoek, today welcomed the first Eurowings Airlines flight to arrive at its Hosea Kutako international airport from Cologne, Germany.

A VIP delegation from the Lufthansa Group of which Eurowings is a subsidiary, including the General Manager: Lufthansa Southern Africa Group, Dr. Andre Schulz, was greeted from the aircraft by the Chairperson of the Board Directors of the Namibia Airports Company (NAC), Mr. Rodgers Kauta.

Eurowings is a low-cost airline specializing in affordable direct flights within Europe and from its Cologne/Bonn location. Eurowings will operate two weekly direct flights on a Monday and Thursday with the airbus A330-200 that accommodates 310 passengers.

“The arrival of the new airline is made possible by the international cooperation efforts of our government which signed and effectively implemented Bilateral Agreements with its respective counterpart, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. As NAC, we stand to play our role of airport services provider, and State vehicle for implementation of the above national policies, but I must mention that of none of this would be possible without the support and leadership of our line Minister, Honourable Alpheus !Naruseb and his team at the Ministry of Works and Transport.” Said Mr. Rodgers Kauta at a welcoming held at Hosea Kutako International Airport.

On behalf of the Lufthansa Group, Dr. Andre Schulz said: “We are delighted to extend our network within Africa by adding the premium leisure and business destination of Windhoek to our route map. Africa remains one of our key target areas for growth and we have identified Namibia as one of the most important African nations to include in our expansion plans.

Mr. Rodgers Kauta along with the Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism, Honourable !Nawatiseb and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr. Cedric Limbo received the delegation on behalf of the Ministry and speaking at the occasion expressed his delight in welcoming another airline to the Hosea Kutako International Airport.

In order to grow and prosper, thereby improving our revenue growth, creating more employment and adding value for government, we have to expand and route development is a vital strategic growth area of our country.
