The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) has taken another significant step toward enhancing aviation safety and operational excellence by acquiring an additional Rosenbauer Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle for deployment at Walvis Bay International Airport.
This strategic investment, valued at N$16 Million, underscores NAC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest international safety standards while positioning Namibia as a competitive aviation and logistics hub for the Southern African region. The addition of this state-of-the-art firefighting vehicle strengthens the airport’s emergency response capacity, ensuring rapid and effective response to aviation incidents. As global aviation regulations continue to evolve, modern ARFF equipment is essential for compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety requirements.
By enhancing its rescue and firefighting capabilities, Walvis Bay International Airport is better equipped to maintain and potentially improve its airport rescue and firefighting category from its current sixth. The move also allows for larger aircraft to land at the airport and provide confidence to international airlines and passengers.
This acquisition is aligned with Namibia’s broader ambition to attract more international airlines and increase air connectivity. Improved safety infrastructure is a critical factor for airlines when selecting destination airports, and NAC’s continued investment signals its readiness to support expanded operations.
Walvis Bay, as a strategic coastal gateway, plays a vital role in, facilitating tourism growth, supporting cargo and freight movement and connecting Namibia to global markets and by strengthening airport infrastructure, NAC is contributing to creating a more attractive and competitive environment for both passenger and cargo airlines.
