Namibia Airports Company (NAC) has successfully completed the Aerodrome Certification for Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) and Walvis Bay International Airport.
The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) issued the aerodrome certificates to NAC last week in accordance with the Namibia Civil Aviation Regulations (NAMCARs) Part 139 provisions.
The NCAA states that, the aerodrome certification process, inclusive of the public consultation, evaluation of the aerodrome manual, on-site verification of facilities and equipment, as well as all findings issued and the corrective action plans (CAPS) submitted and implemented, were successfully completed and the certificates issued in respect of HKIA and WBIA are valid until 5 December 2025.
“We are pleased to receive these certificates and intensify efforts, together with stakeholders, to enhance customer experience pegged to safety and security at our airports”, says NAC Chief Executive Officer Bisey /Uirab.
Eros Airport and Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo Airport are also under the aerodrome licensing process with their interim licences due for mid-2024.
Airport certification is important as it (a)provides the Airport Operator and aircraft Operators with documented proof that the facilities they operate or use are safe; (b) it is an important risk management element; (c) ensure continued safety, regularity and efficiency of aircraft Operations at Aerodromes; and (d) ensure the aerodrome is in compliance with the relevant ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices and Civil Aviation Regulations.
NAC is committed to improve its airport infrastructure to support government national development initiatives and harness the natural resources brought about by the recent oil and gas discovery together with the Green Hydrogen initiatives.
