1 X POSITION: WINDHOEK: JOB GRADE (C5)

The incumbent reports to the IT Manager.

Purpose of this position:

To be responsible for the technical management and support of all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) network and system administration functions within the Namibia Airports Company. This position is responsible for the design, configuration, installation and support of the company’s network and server systems.  To optimize functioning and to keep up with new ICT developments, so that it optimally serves the Applications running on the network.

To plan the computer network architecture for the Namibia Airports Company’s ICT physical infrastructure, associated systems and data to ensure a continuously effective operating ICT infrastructure that will enable the running of all applications, including, but not limited to, networked servers, applications servers, file servers and network security;

The role manages LAN and WAN components including network segments, firewalls, routers, switches, remote access systems and VPN equipment. Administers servers and related software and equipment including Windows and Linux servers, file and printer servers, domain servers, storage systems and backup systems and services and maintains the end user PC environment including ordering, installing and supporting desktop and laptop equipment and related software.

To ensure the availability of corporate network services by monitoring corporate servers as to operating integrity, network equipment and firewalls to ensure the availability of ICT network services at all times.

To develop & maintain sound relationship with ICT service providers and suppliers, as well as users and colleagues, ensuring integrative and constructive work relationships.

To be accountable for smooth server operations, desktop management and hardware procurement within the organization.

Job competencies include:

  • Good experience of standard software applications, including MS Office and Windows
  • Good understanding of Active Directory, VMWare, SAN, NAS and Disaster recovery
  • Strong knowledge of networks and operating systems
  • Strong knowledge of LAN and WAN components
  • Good understanding of Firewall systems and Strong ICT Security Principles
  • Good understanding of computer internals
  • Strong knowledge of Operating Systems such as flavours of Linux, Unix and Microsoft Windows Server
  • Strong knowledge of Backup and Recovery processes for ICT Network and System devices
  • Ability to educate NAC employees on the proper use of All Network And System related resources
  • Ability to communicate technical IT concepts to all audiences
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects assigned by supervisor
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good understanding of current applications and trends in MIS technology.
  • Ethical conduct and high integrity.

    Educational Requirements/Experience

  • A B Degree on NQF Level 7 (or equivalent qualification in Information Technology);
  • A+, N+, MCSA Qualifications, VMware or Hyper-V or similar qualifications, Network certification and Firewall related certification will be an added advantage;
  • 5 years Technical Experience on workstations, servers and network equipment, including firewalls;
  • Fully Computer literate;
  • Valid Driver’s License.

     Personal Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of hardware and software for networking servers and PCs;
  • Proven experience in network administration;
  • Proven experience in Windows and Linux server administration;
  • Proven experience in PC Administration;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  •  
  • Strong written and oral communication.
